Manipur Situation Stabilised in 2025 Following Security Steps and Government Efforts: Army Chief

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on January 13 said the security situation in Manipur showed significant improvement in 2025, attributing the progress to neutral, transparent and decisive actions by security forces, along with proactive steps taken by the government.

Speaking on the broader situation in the Northeast, General Dwivedi said sustained efforts by the armed forces and civil administration had helped restore a measure of normalcy in Manipur.

He noted that the peaceful conduct of the Durand Cup football tournament in the state reflected improved law and order and growing public confidence.

The Army Chief also pointed to the resumption of cultural festivals and community activities as key signs of stability returning to the region. He added that the renewal of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki insurgent groups in September 2025 played an important role in reducing violence and creating space for dialogue.

General Dwivedi stressed that a combination of firm security measures and inclusive governance initiatives remains essential to sustaining peace and stability in Manipur and the wider Northeast.
