Manipur Police, along with security forces, have arrested four active members of banned militant groups PREPAK (Pro), PREPAK, and RPF/PLA in coordinated operations across Bishnupur and Imphal West districts, officials said. The raids also led to the seizure of extortion money, mobile devices, and identity documents, highlighting intensified counter-insurgency measures in the state.
According to police sources, Wairokpam Atu Meitei alias Boiton (22), a resident of Phoijing Tera Makhong under Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district and an active cadre of PREPAK (Pro), was arrested from his locality on January 16. A mobile phone was recovered during the operation.
On the same day, Malem Heisnam alias Ngaiba (21), a resident of Karang Maning Leikai under Keibul Lamjao Police Station, Bishnupur district, and an active PREPAK cadre, was apprehended from the Thanga Chingang Playground area within Keibul Lamjao Police jurisdiction.
In a separate operation in Imphal West district, security forces arrested Chabungbam Thaibema Devi (49) alias Medha, a resident of Tera Loukrakpam Leikai under Lamphel Police Station, who is linked to the RPF/PLA outfit. Authorities seized Rs 1 lakh in extortion money, along with a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card from her possession.
Police said further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the accused individuals’ involvement in insurgent activities and extortion networks in the region. Security forces reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying operations against militant groups to ensure law and order in Manipur.
