Manipur Police Confirm Meitei Mobs Behind Gelmol Attack; Five Dead


Imphal, April 9: A serious security incident unfolded in Manipur after a violent confrontation took place at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Gelmol, where armed individuals reportedly attempted to loot weapons from the facility.

According to Manipur Police, the primary threat during the incident came from armed Meitei mobs, allegedly led by the group Arambai Tenggol, who advanced toward the CRPF camp with the intent of seizing arms. Security personnel responded after the mob reached the arms storage area, prompting the CRPF to open fire to prevent a breach.

Officials have confirmed that at least five armed individuals involved in the confrontation have been killed. The situation in the area remains tense, with additional security forces deployed to maintain order and prevent further escalation.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely and have urged the public to remain calm. An investigation is currently underway to establish the full sequence of events and determine accountability.
