MANIPUR Govt extend mobile internet ban in 5 valley Districts for two more days

The Manipur government on Thursday extended the suspension of mobile internet and mobile data services, including VPN services, in five valley districts for another two days, citing the prevailing law and order situation.

According to an order issued by N. Ashok Kumar, Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, the temporary suspension will remain in effect in *Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur* districts from *2:00 PM on April 10, 2026, to 2:00 PM on April 12, 2026*.

The Home Department stated that the extension was ordered as a preventive measure due to “apprehensions of spread of disinformation and false rumours” through social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, which could lead to mobilization of mobs and violence. The order noted that effective control and regulatory mechanisms for mobile data are “not technically feasible” at present.

The suspension covers mobile data, broadband via VSATs, and VPN services. However, broadband services including Internet Lease Line and FTTH have been exempted conditionally under a liberalised order dated April 8, 2026.

The order, issued under Rule 3 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024, warns that any person found guilty of violating the directions will be liable for legal action.

This is the second extension of the ban. The State government had initially ordered a three-day suspension from April 7, which was followed by further curbs on Broadband
