Manipur Government Extends Mobile Internet Ban in Five District Amid Security Concern.

Imphal, April 10, 2026: The Government of Manipur has extended the suspension of mobile internet and data services in five districts—Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur—for an additional two days, starting from 2:00 PM on April 10, 2026.

The extension comes after a review of the prevailing law and order situation in these areas. According to the Home Department, the continued restriction is necessary to prevent the spread of misinformation and false rumours through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, which could potentially lead to unrest, mob mobilisation, and damage to public or private property.

Officials stated that although broadband services (ILL and FTTH) were earlier restored under certain conditions, mobile internet services remain difficult to regulate effectively. As a result, mobile data services, including VPN access, will continue to remain suspended.

The order has been issued under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024, in view of the emergent situation. Authorities have also warned that any violation of the directive will attract strict legal action.

The government said the measure is temporary and aimed at maintaining public safety and preventing escalation of violence in the affected districts.
