Lamka, March 22, 2026 — The Government of Manipur, led by Chief Minister Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh, held its first meeting with leaders of the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) in Guwahati, Assam, yesterday. The session began at 7:00 PM and lasted about 1 hour 45 minutes, marking the first engagement between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities in nearly three years of conflict.
The KZC delegation presented key concerns to the Chief Minister, focusing on two urgent issues: (1) de‑escalating tensions between the Kuki and Tangkhul communities, and (2) ensuring justice for conflict victims as a foundation for peace and reconciliation.
The Council also stressed the need to preserve the buffer zone’s sanctity until a political settlement is achieved and urged acceleration of the ongoing Suspension of Operations (SoO) talks to secure lasting peace in the region.
In response, the Chief Minister shared his government’s efforts to restore normalcy in Manipur and expressed appreciation for the KZC’s initiative and bold engagement during this challenging period.
