The Election Commission of India (ECI) will host the inaugural India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICDEM) 2026 from 21st to 23rd January at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

Organised by the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) under the ECI, the three-day event aims to explore strategic solutions to global challenges facing democracies, including disinformation, evolving legal frameworks, and rapid digital and AI-driven transformations.

Speaking to the media in Imphal on Thursday, Lokeshor Brahmacharimayum, Joint Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur, said a delegation from Manipur, led by the Chief Electoral Officer and including three subject experts, will participate in the conference.

The event will host representatives from all 36 States and Union Territories, with India leading the initiative during its chairship of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), under the ECI’s mandate.

For the event, the CEO of Manipur has set up a dedicated thematic group to conduct research and preparatory work on the theme assigned to the State by IIIDEM.

Three scholars from Manipur—Md. Farijudin Khan (Assistant Professor, Dhanamanjuri University), Ng. Chinthoibi Chanu (Research Scholar, Manipur University), and Tim Haobam (Standing Counsel, Manipur High Court)—have been selected to represent the State and present on the theme: “Ease of Political Participation in Voter Registration.”
