Authorities in Assam’s Dhubri district have arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting his teenage daughter, officials reported on January 15.
The accused, identified as Ratan Roy of Shukati Khata village in the Gauripur area, was taken into custody late Wednesday following a complaint regarding the alleged assault.
Roy is currently held at the Gauripur Police Station, where a case has been registered under applicable legal provisions. Officers from the Daobhangi police outpost are assisting with evidence collection and recording statements as part of the investigation.
The incident has sparked strong reactions among local residents, who have expressed shock and called for strict action against the accused. Police have stated that the investigation is being conducted promptly and with sensitivity to ensure justice for the survivor.
