Lamka
March 6, 2025
The Paite Tuailai Pawl (PTP) has issued a strong warning to the Federation of Civil Society (FOCS) ahead of its planned Peace Expedition to Lamka on March 8, 2025.
The group declared that visitors would be stepping into the region “at their own risk and peril” and warned that they would be met “with garlands of detonating fusecord and an iron fist.”
In an official statement, PTP accused the visiting group of disregarding the region’s history and tensions, warning them of potential violence if they proceed. The letter described the planned visit as a provocation and declared that venturing into Lamka will be the end of journey for any Meitei on earth.
The statement also referenced past violence in the region, blaming the Meitei community for “burning churches, butchering and killing our people, raping our women, vandalizing, looting, and turning our homes to ashes.”
It further emphasized that the communities have lived separately for over two years and warned against any attempts at forced reconciliation. The threat-laden message has raised concerns about escalating tensions in Manipur, where ethnic violence has been a recurring issue.
Authorities are yet to respond to the warning, but security measures are expected to be heightened ahead of the proposed Peace Expedition.
