Kuki Village Volunteers – Eastern Zone have strongly opposed the planned march by the Federation of Civil Society (FOCS) towards the hill districts on March 8, making its stance clear that no free movement will be allowed in Kuki-Zo areas until a Separate Administration or Union Territory with a legislature is established for their people.
In a press statement, the group condemned past injustices, atrocities, and oppression committed against Kuki-Zo community. It argued that those responsible for harming their people, taking innocent lives, and denying their rights cannot be allowed unrestricted access to their lands under the guise of peaceful marches.
“The demand for a Separate Administration is not just a political aspiration but a necessity for our survival, security, and dignity,” the statement emphasized. The group urged authorities to recognize the deep-rooted grievances of the Kuki-Zo people and ensure that those who have persecuted them do not move freely in their territories.
The Village Volunteers also warned against any attempts at reconciliation between the government and alleged perpetrators before the establishment of a Separate Administration, stating that such efforts would face severe consequences.
Reaffirming their commitment to protecting their land and people, the group vowed to resist any attempts to infringe upon their rights or forcibly enter their areas. “No Free Movement before Separate Administration! Justice and Security for the Kuki-Zo People!”, the statement concluded.
