Kuki CSO Working Committee Welcomes Security Response, Urges Accurate Verification of Gunfire Incidents.

Ukhrul, April 11, 2026: The Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul, has welcomed the recent authorization granted to security forces to respond to ongoing gunfire incidents in parts of the district, describing the move as “better late than never.”

In an official statement issued on Saturday, the committee acknowledged that although the response came after delays and tragic losses, it has brought a sense of relief to civilians and security personnel in affected areas including Mongkot Chepu, Shangkai, Zalenbung, and the Leplen–Tingpibung stretch.

The statement highlighted the human cost of the violence, noting the deaths of two civilians at Thawai Kuki, injuries to three individuals in Mongkot Chepu, and the sacrifice of BSF Constable Mithun Mandal. The committee stated that the intervention marks an important step toward restoring safety and curbing violence in the region.

However, the committee also raised serious concerns regarding the reported use of supersonic ammunition by Tangkhul militants. According to the statement, such ammunition can create misleading acoustic effects, increasing the risk of misidentification and potentially leading to wrongful accusations against the Kuki community.

Emphasizing the need for caution, the committee urged authorities to ensure that the true origin of any gunfire is thoroughly verified before taking action.
