On the the 31st death anniversary of Kuki National Front (KNF) founding president Mr Nehlun Kipgen, various Kuki militant groups pay tribute and marked the day with solemn remembrance at several places in Kuki dominated Hill areas of Manipur.
In Kangpokpi, KNF leads the observation at Phaijang whereas the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) observed the day at undisclosed location in Churachandpur, as per sources available with Northeast Diary.
Similar observation was reported in the headquarters of Kuki National Front( KNF-N) in Sadar Hills East Division. Mentioned may be made that both UKNA and KNF-N are not under Suspension of Operation (SOO) with State and Central government.
Nehlun Kipgen founded KNF with few like-minded individuals on the 18th May 1988. It was the first well-organised Kuki militant group to demand separate statehood for Kukis.
However, he was martyred in a gun battle with Indian security forces in 1993. Though his involvement was brief he left an indelible mark to the coming generation to pursue what is left behind.
