Karachi’s Gul Plaza Blaze Kills 26, Leaves More Than 80 Missing

A devastating fire at Gul Plaza on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi has killed at least 26 people, with up to 81 more reported missing. The blaze, which started late on January 17, raged for nearly 34 hours before being brought under control. The building has been declared structurally unsafe, restricting general access.

Rescue teams continue operations, and authorities have recovered 26 bodies so far, with DNA tests underway to confirm the identities of the victims. Survivors described locked exits and significant safety lapses that trapped people inside the building.

In response, the Sindh government has announced compensation of 10 million rupees for the families of those who lost their lives.
