Kamrup Metro DEO Addresses Voter List Discrepancy, Denies Multiple Entries Under Single House Number

The Office of the District Election Officer (DEO) for Kamrup Metropolitan issued a statement on January 9, rejecting claims that 22 voters were registered under a single house number in the 35 No. New Guwahati Legislative Assembly Constituency.

The allegation prompted election officials to carry out a field-level verification. The complaint suggested that 22 voters had been enrolled under one house number, leading to a review by the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO). According to the BLO’s findings, the allegation was inaccurate. Only 11 voters were actually registered under house number 136, not 22 as claimed. The other 11 voters were enrolled under separate house numbers—156(1), 236(a), and 136(b)—and belong to different families.

The BLO report further clarified that two families, led by Makbul Hossain (son of Anjur Ali) and Javed Ali (son of Banu Ali), are currently listed under house number 136. Both families live on the same premises and are registered at Polling Station No. 103, Ganesh Mandir Higher Secondary School (Girls’ Wing).

Additionally, the report noted that these families were previously listed under house number 236 on the 2014 electoral roll, which fell under Polling Station No. 113, Ganesh Mandir High School (Boys’ Wing). This area was part of the former No. 8 Dispur Legislative Assembly Constituency before the recent delimitation.

The DEO has categorically stated that the claim of 22 voters being added under a single house number is “completely false and baseless.” The confusion arose from discrepancies in house number references, which are being corrected at the booth level. Efforts are currently underway to resolve these discrepancies and ensure an accurate and error-free electoral roll.

Reaffirming the commitment to transparency, the DEO emphasized that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
