The Indian textiles industry has experienced significant growth over the past decade, expanding from ₹8.4 lakh crore in 2014 to approximately ₹16 lakh crore today, making it one of the country’s largest employment-generating sectors.

Speaking at the 74th Edition of the India International Garment Fair (IIGF) in New Delhi, Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh highlighted that the domestic market has also surged from ₹6 lakh crore to ₹13 lakh crore in 2025, while exports have increased by more than 25% since the pandemic.

Mr. Singh described IIGF as a trusted global platform for international garment buyers. He emphasized that the Narendra Modi government has streamlined the textiles sector by removing multiple barriers and introducing various supportive schemes. The minister also pointed to robust international growth, noting that India’s textile exports have risen by 77% to Argentina, 30% to Egypt, 20% to Poland and Japan, and 10% to Sweden and France. Singh added that India is moving towards reducing reliance on foreign standards and developing its own benchmarks through initiatives like VisionNxt and IndiaSize.
