India, EU Step Up Partnership to Build a Sustainable Transport Ecosystem

India and the European Union have agreed to deepen cooperation in the transport sector, with a strong focus on sustainability and innovation. The decision was taken during a meeting between EU Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas and Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

According to the Civil Aviation Minister, the discussions centred on advancing environmentally friendly transportation, including the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel and the promotion of green aviation practices. Both sides also exchanged views on building resilient and sustainable transport ecosystems.

The meeting highlighted the need to strengthen collaboration between the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Areas of cooperation include joint certification processes, regulatory coordination, cybersecurity, and drone regulations.

The Minister further noted that several new initiatives are in the pipeline, such as the formation of joint working groups and the rollout of technology transfer programmes. Both India and the EU reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and increasing participation in global green aviation initiatives.
