India Condemns Pakistan at UN, Rejects ‘False Narrative’ on Operation Sindoor

India strongly rebutted Pakistan’s claims regarding Operation Sindoor at the United Nations, asserting that Islamabad has no right to comment on India’s internal matters, particularly the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

During an open debate at the UN Security Council on “Reaffirming International Rule of Law: Pathways to Reinvigorating Peace, Justice, and Multilateralism,” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, P. Harish, condemned Pakistan’s continued use of terrorism as a tool of state policy. He described Pakistan’s single-point agenda as targeting India and its citizens.

Responding to Pakistan’s assertions that its reaction to Operation Sindoor had set a “new normal,” Harish said terrorism can never be normalized. He emphasized that India will take all necessary measures to safeguard its citizens and cautioned against the Security Council being used to legitimize terrorism.

Harish criticized Pakistan for presenting a “false and self-serving” account of Operation Sindoor, which India launched in May last year to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack. He noted that the Security Council had previously condemned the Pahalgam attack in the strongest terms, urging accountability for the perpetrators and sponsors.

India’s envoy described the operation as measured, non-escalatory, and aimed solely at disabling terrorist networks. He added that Pakistan had continued threats until May 9, but sought a cessation directly through military channels the following day.

Harish also firmly rejected Pakistan’s comments on Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating that the Union Territory is an integral and inalienable part of India and that Islamabad has no locus standi on India’s internal matters.

Addressing the Indus Waters Treaty, he said India had entered into the 65-year-old agreement in good faith. However, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, India placed the treaty in abeyance until Pakistan credibly ends its support for cross-border terrorism.

Finally, Harish urged Pakistan to reflect on its own adherence to the rule of law, citing the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which grants lifetime immunity to Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, from legal prosecution.
