The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday, March 1, forecasted heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstorm over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and other parts of Northeast states including Manipur.
The weather activity is expected to intensify on March 2, bringing isolated heavy rainfall to the region. According to the department’s data, a western disturbance, along with an upper air cyclonic circulation, is responsible for the prevailing weather conditions.
This has also been expected to bring light to moderate rainfall over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, with the possibility of hailstorm and gusty winds (30-50 kmph) over the eastern Himalayan region.
The IMD has also advised residents in the affected regions to stay updated with local weather warnings and take necessary precautions against thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds.
