The International Cricket Council (ICC) has turned down a request from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to relocate Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka, confirming that the fixtures will go ahead as planned.
The ICC said it found no credible security threat to Bangladesh players, officials, or supporters at any of the tournament venues in India.
The decision was made during an ICC Board meeting held via video conference, convened after the BCB raised safety concerns and formally sought a change of venues.
According to the ICC, the Board concluded that relocating matches under the current circumstances would risk compromising the integrity of ICC events and could undermine the organisation’s neutrality as the global governing body of cricket.
The Board reviewed several security assessments, including independent evaluations, all of which determined that there was no credible threat to the Bangladesh team.
Bangladesh had initially been given until January 21 to confirm its participation in the tournament. The ICC has now granted the BCB an additional day to clarify its position.
If Bangladesh ultimately withdraws from the competition, Scotland is expected to replace them based on the current ICC rankings.
