Historic India-EU Trade Pact Sealed; PM Modi and EU Commission President Laud It as ‘Mother of All Deals

India and the European Union (EU) today finalised a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) during talks in New Delhi between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, European Council President Antonio Costa, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Seven agreements were exchanged covering trade, security, defence, mobility, disaster management, and green hydrogen.

Prime Minister Modi called it India’s biggest FTA, describing it as a blueprint for shared prosperity that will boost investment, innovation, and global supply chains. The deal was hailed by Modi and von der Leyen as the “mother of all deals.”

EU Council President Costa called the FTA a historic moment, emphasizing cooperation for shared prosperity and security. Von der Leyen praised India’s growth and highlighted its positive impact on global stability and prosperity.

The EU is India’s largest trading partner in goods, with bilateral trade reaching around $136 billion in 2024-25, including $76 billion in exports and $60 billion in imports.
