Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh traveled to New Delhi on January 16, sparking speculation about potential steps to reinstate a popular government in the state as President’s Rule approaches its expiration next month.
When asked by reporters about the purpose of his visit, Singh gave a brief reply, stating that the central government would act “very soon.” President’s Rule in Manipur is set to end in February, and political observers are increasingly anticipating the possible return of an elected government without any extension of central rule.
The visit comes in the wake of a meeting held last month in New Delhi, where senior BJP leaders called all party MLAs from Manipur, cutting across community lines. Nearly all BJP legislators attended the meeting, heightening expectations of government formation in the state.
Although no official announcement has been made, Singh’s trip to the national capital has intensified discussions over the political roadmap for Manipur in the coming weeks.
