Vice-President of the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, arrived in India early this morning for her first official visit. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted on social media that the visit comes at a “timely moment” to further strengthen the India-EU Strategic Partnership. He added that Ms. Kallas’s trip will build on the ongoing momentum of regular high-level engagements between India and the European Union.
Her visit precedes the upcoming trip of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa, who are set to be the chief guests at India’s Republic Day celebrations on Monday. The two EU leaders will also co-chair the 16th India-EU Summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 27.
