European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen Holds Talks with US Congressional Delegation in Davos

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met with a bipartisan delegation from the U.S. Congress in Davos, Switzerland, to address concerns over former President Donald Trump’s remarks about acquiring Greenland. She stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of both Greenland and Denmark and called for close U.S.-NATO cooperation to address security issues in Greenland and the wider Arctic region.

Von der Leyen also warned that tariffs could undermine shared EU-U.S. trade interests, responding to Trump’s earlier threats of imposing tariffs on Denmark and other European nations.

Earlier, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted the growing strategic importance of Greenland, noting that its security will become increasingly critical as climate change transforms the Arctic. He emphasized that the United States will play a central role in this effort, with the UK prepared to contribute fully alongside its NATO allies.
