The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued detailed directions to implement the Supreme Court’s order on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal.
The guidelines mandate the public display of voter names listed under the “Logical Discrepancies” and “Unmapped” categories. Affected voters will be given an opportunity to submit supporting documents and present their case within a prescribed timeline.
The Commission has also instructed West Bengal authorities to strictly comply with the Supreme Court’s order related to the ongoing SIR 2026 exercise during the current month.
To ensure smooth implementation, the ECI has directed the state administration and police to deploy adequate manpower, facilitate orderly hearings, and maintain law and order. It warned that strict action would be taken against any instance of non-compliance.
Specific instructions have been issued to the Director General of Police of West Bengal, the Kolkata Police Commissioner, all District Collectors, other Police Commissioners, and Superintendents of Police to ensure strict maintenance of law and order throughout the SIR process.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar assured the people of West Bengal that no individual would be allowed to take the law into their own hands and that stringent action would be taken against any such attempts.
