Dumper Truck Slams Into House in South Kamrup, Assam; Two Dead

Borbhitha village, South Kamrup – Tragedy struck on January 11 when a speeding dumper truck collided with a residential house, killing two people, including a four-year-old child, and leaving three others critically injured.

According to reports, the truck—allegedly involved in illegal sand transportation—lost control near an embankment, skidded off the road, and toppled from an elevated section directly onto the house.

At the time of the accident, the family of Hasan Ali was asleep inside. All five members were trapped under the debris as the vehicle struck the structure. Panicked villagers rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help.

Police personnel from Goroimari, Jorshimuli, and Sontoli stations, along with locals, conducted a rescue operation lasting several hours. Three family members were pulled out alive, while two were found dead once the truck was removed.

The deceased have been identified as Saleha Khatun and her four-year-old daughter, Majeda Khatun. The injured—Hasina Khatun, Tasleema Khatun, and a one-year-old girl—were taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who say the reckless movement of sand-laden dumpers poses a growing danger to life and property. Locals are demanding strict measures to curb illegal sand mining and transportation to prevent future tragedies.
