Digboi Congress Reshuffle Reflects Party’s Aggressive Drive Ahead of 2026 Assam Elections

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s (APCC) recent organisational reshuffle is being seen as a strategic move ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, signaling the party’s intent to strengthen its grassroots presence and challenge the BJP in key constituencies.

In Digboi, the appointment of Bishnu Jaisey as Block Congress Committee President has become the focal point of the changes. The decision sparked widespread enthusiasm among party ranks, with multiple Congress wings and frontal organisations felicitating Jaisey at Rajiv Bhawan, Digboi, in the presence of a large gathering of leaders, workers, and supporters.

The event highlighted renewed confidence within the Congress in Digboi, a constituency currently held by the BJP and considered politically significant in Upper Assam. Senior leaders attending included Biraj Rajkonwar, Secretary, APCC; Rajib Moran, Vice President, Disaster and Rehabilitation Management Department, APCC; Munindra Das, President, Digboi Block Youth Congress Committee; and Pulikanta Moran, President, Assembly Youth Congress, demonstrating coordinated support from both senior and youth leadership.

Addressing the gathering, Biraj Rajkonwar praised Jaisey’s decades-long dedication and organisational work for the party, noting that his appointment reflects Congress’s strategy of relying on experienced grassroots leaders to spearhead its electoral efforts. Rajib Moran added that the move had significantly boosted party morale and marked the beginning of a more assertive phase for Congress politics in Digboi.

A senior Congress leader highlighted Jaisey’s ability to connect across party wings and maintain close ties with local communities, describing him as a unifying figure whose down-to-earth approach could counter the BJP’s organisational strength in the constituency.

After taking charge, Bishnu Jaisey expressed gratitude to the party leadership and outlined his priorities: strengthening booth-level organisation, energising workers, and addressing public issues overlooked under BJP governance. He asserted that Congress would contest the 2026 Assam Assembly elections in Digboi with full strength and unity.

Veteran Congress leaders from Digboi, including Bhaskar Jiban Baruah, Mithu Rajak, and Prasana Borah, welcomed Jaisey’s elevation, saying it opens a new chapter for the party and positions it for a strong electoral comeback.

The felicitation event concluded with a clear message of unity, mobilisation, and readiness, reflecting Congress’s sharpened strategy for the 2026 Assembly polls.
