Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio attended the 70th Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) Conference on Tuesday as the special guest at Chungtia Village. He paid tribute to the pioneering contributions of the Ao community while addressing key socio-political challenges confronting the state.
Speaking under the conference theme, “Strengthening Horizons,” Dr. Rio expressed his gratitude to the AKM, Chungtia Village, and the Ao community for hosting the landmark event. He acknowledged the role of Ao pioneers in shaping Naga society, emphasizing that their vision extended beyond tribal boundaries and focused on the collective progress of all Nagas. Referring to the AKM motto, “For the Nation,” the Chief Minister described it as a commitment to selfless service. He highlighted the historic contributions of the Ao tribe and reaffirmed the state government’s recognition of the community as the “Land of Pioneers.”
Addressing pressing issues facing Nagaland, Dr. Rio spoke candidly about the unresolved Naga political issue, growing social fragmentation, and governance matters related to the Inner Line Permit (ILP), the protection of Article 371A, and the utilization of the state’s mineral resources. He stressed that unity, mutual respect, and collaborative effort among all Naga tribes are essential to overcoming these challenges.
The Chief Minister also outlined initiatives undertaken by the state government, including the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) and the consultative meeting held on September 12, 2024, which brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the Naga political issue.
Urging a move away from a “blame culture,” Dr. Rio encouraged resolving differences through sincere dialogue. Speaking to the youth, he said the legacy of the forefathers should not merely be remembered as history, but embraced as a responsibility to carry forward.
He concluded with an appeal to the younger generation to uphold the values and vision of the founding leaders, ensuring their ideals continue to guide Nagaland on a path of progress.
