Centre Accelerates Arunachal’s Growth with Multi-Sector Development Boost as NEC Disburses Major Funds

Arunachal Pradesh received substantial developmental support from the Centre last year, with the North Eastern Council (NEC) allocating funds for a range of projects aimed at improving healthcare, infrastructure, tourism, and livelihood opportunities in the border state, according to an official statement.

In December, the NEC released Rs 4.24 crore for priority projects in Arunachal Pradesh. These initiatives, outlined by the region’s apex statutory planning body, include the construction of a nursing hostel at Yingkiong District Hospital in Upper Siang, a maternity and child care centre in Miao (Changlang district), and the development of the Tissa viewpoint near Tissa Camp in Tirap district. These projects are designed to enhance healthcare services and promote tourism infrastructure.

To boost connectivity, the NEC also sanctioned Rs 13.50 crore under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS-Roads) for essential roadworks in the state. This funding will be used for the construction and upgrading of a 21-km stretch of road from Murung Gika to the Panior bridge point, covering Sarchgai, Mate, Kusuk, and Pan in Papum Pare district. Additionally, improvements will be made to the Bana EAC to Richukrong headquarters road in East Kameng district. These road projects are set to significantly enhance access to remote and administrative areas, benefitting approximately 19,500 people across 15 villages.

The statement also highlighted the successful completion of a Rs 2.60 crore livelihood generation project for migrant workers who returned to the state during the Covid-19 pandemic. This project, implemented in the industries sector, focused on skill development and self-employment opportunities, helping beneficiaries engage in sustainable income-generating activities and reduce distress migration, thus strengthening local economic resilience in the post-pandemic era.

In the education and youth development sector, students from Arunachal Pradesh participated in the North East Students Programme for Awareness, Reach, and Knowledge on Space (NE-SPARKS). Under this flagship initiative by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), selected students were given guided tours of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) centres in Bengaluru, offering them exposure to India’s space science and technology ecosystem. The programme is aimed at inspiring young minds and encouraging careers in STEM fields, particularly space science.

Overall, the NEC disbursed Rs 76.78 crore across the Northeastern states and regional agencies in December 2025 for a variety of projects focused on infrastructure, livelihoods, education, research, culture, and innovation. This ongoing funding reinforces the Centre’s commitment to inclusive development and balanced regional growth in Arunachal Pradesh and the broader Northeast region.
