BREAKING: WCKCSOs Call Off Economic Blockade Following Governor’s Intervention Resulted in Opening Kangpokpi-Churachandpur Road

KANGPOKPI: The Working Committee of Kuki Civil Society Organisations (WCKCSOs) announced the immediate lifting of its indefinite economic blockade along National Highway-2 in Kangpokpi district, which was imposed on August 8. This decision came a day after the Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) lifted its travel restriction imposed on the Kuki-Zo community since July 15, 2025.

In a statement issued today, the WCKCSOs said the decision followed the intervention of the Governor of Manipur, which resulted in the reopening of the vital Kangpokpi/Kanggui–Lamka/Churachandpur route after more than 20 days of what the group described as a “total communal blockade” targeting the Kuki-Zo community.

While acknowledging the “tremendous hardship and suffering” endured by the people during the prolonged disruption, the organisation expressed gratitude to the United Naga Council (UNC) for its “mature stand” in localising the dispute and upholding humanitarian principles.

The WCKCSOs also thanked all the well-wishers and wider Kuki-Zo population for supporting the economic blockade, which was aimed at safeguarding its community interests.

However, the committee warned that it would “never allow any organisation to dictate terms along our lifelines” and urged the Kuki-Zo people to remain ready to voice democratic protests “if and when necessitated in the future.”

Lungthang Kipgen, Convenor of the WCKCSOs, told the media that the indefinite blockade could be resumed at any time if any community attempts to disrupt the movement of the Kuki-Zo people again.
