Imphal, January 9 – The Manipur-based Babina Group of Companies has announced special healthcare concessions for journalists in the state, providing subsidised diagnostic tests and hospital treatments at its medical facilities.
The announcement was made during a media interaction held at Babina Multi-Speciality Hospital in Khabeisoi, Imphal East, coinciding with the New Year as a gesture of support for the media community.
Dr. Thangjam Dhabali Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of the Babina Group, said journalists will receive a 30% discount on diagnostic services and a 20% discount on hospital treatments at the group’s facilities, including Babina Multi-Speciality Hospital and Babina Diagnostic Centre.
“This initiative recognises the crucial role journalists play in keeping the public informed, especially in a conflict-affected state like Manipur,” Dr. Singh said. “An informed society is key to progress, and the media’s contribution in challenging times deserves institutional support.”
Speaking about the group’s broader operations, Dr. Singh highlighted that Babina Group spans healthcare, hospitality, and education, employing nearly 1,300 people. Despite the ongoing conflict affecting businesses and livelihoods in the state, he said the group has continued to provide essential services.
Since its inauguration last year, Babina Multi-Speciality Hospital has conducted kidney transplants, open-heart surgeries, and device closures for congenital heart disease, and currently performs dialysis for over 100 patients daily.
Dr. Singh concluded by expressing hope for an early return of peace and normalcy in Manipur, noting that prolonged violence brings suffering and impacts all sections of society.
