Delhi Police have arrested Dr. Ashma Begum, 48, from Guwahati, for allegedly impersonating a foreign diplomat and using counterfeit diplomatic number plates on a luxury vehicle to access high-security areas of the capital, days before the 77th Republic Day. She was detained on January 15 while driving a Toyota Innova with a fake plate. Police recovered three forged embassy plates, a mobile phone, and vehicle sale documents.
Begum reportedly frequented diplomatic circles in Vasant Vihar, attended embassy events, and claimed ties with government and sports bodies. She could not produce any valid diplomatic credentials during questioning.
A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and she has been remanded to six days of police custody. Investigations into her activities and possible accomplices are ongoing.
