Assam to Host PM Modi on Feb 14, Amit Shah on Jan 30

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 22 announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit the state later this month, signalling a series of high-profile engagements ahead of the Assembly elections.

Speaking to the media, Sarma said Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on February 14, while Amit Shah will arrive on January 30. During his visit, Modi will inaugurate a bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting two parts of Guwahati and formally dedicate the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Guwahati, to the nation. Sarma shared these details through a Facebook Live from Davos, where he is attending the World Economic Forum.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Dibrugarh on January 30 to lay the foundation stone of Assam’s second Legislative Assembly complex and address a public rally. According to Sarma, the visit highlights the Centre’s focus on strengthening administrative infrastructure in Upper Assam.

The Chief Minister noted that Modi’s February visit will be his third trip to Assam in the past three months, underscoring sustained attention from the central leadership. He added that the Prime Minister may also lay the foundation stone for a railway coach manufacturing factory at Kokrajhar and inaugurate several other projects.

Sarma further said that a Peace Area and Advanced Landing Facility is being developed at Moran in Dibrugarh district, which will significantly cut travel time between Dibrugarh and Itanagar by enabling direct flight operations and improved highway connectivity.

The Chief Minister also recalled that Prime Minister Modi has already visited Assam twice in recent months.
