Assam: Explosives Found at Badarpur Railway Station Before Republic Day, Suspect Detained

In a major security alert ahead of Republic Day, authorities recovered a large consignment of explosive materials from Badarpur Railway Station in Assam’s border district of Sribhumi, prompting heightened vigilance across the railway network. One individual has been detained in connection with the seizure, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The explosives were discovered by the Government Railway Police (GRP) during a routine security check on Platform No. 1. Acting on standard preventive protocols, GRP personnel stopped and searched a young man exhibiting suspicious behavior within the station premises, leading to the discovery.

The detained individual has been identified as Abdul Rahim, a resident of the Nilambazar police station area in Sribhumi district. Officials recovered around 10,000 explosive detonators from his possession, raising serious concerns about potential misuse during the sensitive pre-Republic Day period.

Security agencies have launched a detailed investigation to trace the source and intended destination of the seized detonators, as well as to determine whether they are linked to a broader network involved in the illegal transport of explosives.

Following the seizure, security measures have been further tightened at railway stations and other sensitive locations across the region. Authorities have also intensified coordination with intelligence agencies to ensure public safety.
