In a significant move to assess and address the ongoing security concerns in Manipur, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, chaired a high-level review meeting in New Delhi.
The meeting, which focused on the region’s security, saw the participation of key officials, including the Governor of Manipur, Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Eastern Command Army Commander, and senior officers from various forces including the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Assam Rifles, and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The discussions underscored the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in Manipur. Minister Shah, speaking at the meeting, reiterated the Government of India’s pledge to ensure the region’s safety under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shah outlined measures to enhance public mobility, directing that all roads across the state be kept clear for movement by March 8, 2025. He emphasized that any attempts to block these roads would face strict legal action. In addition to improving public accessibility, the Minister focused on strengthening border security by speeding up the fencing work at key entry points along Manipur’s international border.
Furthermore, Shah stressed the importance of tackling drug trafficking in the region, calling for the dismantling of the entire network involved in the illegal trade to help make Manipur drug-free.
This meeting marks a decisive step in the government’s proactive approach to addressing the security challenges in Manipur, reinforcing its commitment to the region’s long-term peace and development.
