On January 21, security forces in Manipur arrested an active member of the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) in the border town of Moreh, located in Tengnoupal district.
The arrested individual has been identified as 28-year-old Waikhom Athoi, also known as Sidaba, a resident of Khabam Lamkhai under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district. He was apprehended in Pangal Basti near Border Pillar No. 79 under Moreh Police Station jurisdiction, based on specific intelligence inputs.
During the operation, authorities recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, highlighting the ongoing threat from armed insurgent groups in the border areas. The items seized included a 9 mm pistol with two magazines, 30 rounds of live 9 mm ammunition in a pouch, a mobile phone with SIM card, a wristwatch, and a torchlight.
Security officials have stated that further investigations are underway to map the cadre’s network, operational role, and potential cross-border connections.
