After 22 months of leading one of the most brutal assault against Kuki communities in Manipur, which the community claims, the Arambai Tenggol today issued a press release stating that everyone must respect the constitution and work for peace and development.
The unusual statement of the Arambai Tenggol comes at the time when situation got heightened in the wake of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s call for free movement to begin from 8 March. Kukis justice and security as a prerequisite to peace protested Shah’s directive of free movement, leading to the death of one Kuki youth and leave 50 others injured when security forces confronted them.
Amid ongoing unrest in Manipur, Meitei radical organization the Arambai Tenggol has demanded the the restoration of Hindu religious sites which they claimed were “destroyed by Kukis” during the conflict since May 2023.
The press release commends Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his efforts in restoring peace in Manipur. The organization has called on the state administration and the Union Home Minister to expedite the reconstruction of the sacred places, emphasizing their significance in fostering communal unity and preserving cultural heritage. However, the organization does not provide detail account of how many temples were destroyed in the process.
Arambai Tenggol also warned groups of disrupting Manipur’s peace and territorial integrity and demanded that those involved in violence must adhere to the Indian Constitution. The organization expressed firm support for the Central Government’s peace initiatives and vowed not to remain silent if the crisis escalates.
While calling for unity among citizens, the organization has urged the people of Manipur to stand strong in defense of their land and identity. The press release concludes with an appeal for national unity and support for the Central Government’s efforts to restore normalcy. Arambai Tenggol emphasized that peace, development, and cultural preservation should be the ultimate goals for the future of Manipur.
