Imphal: In a possible case of mistaken identity or an alleged internal feud within the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN), four suspected Eastern Flank cadres were killed by suspected NSCN-IM members at Hongbei village under Kasom Khullen Block in Kamjong district of Manipur.
The incident occurred at around 9:20 PM on Saturday along the Imphal–Kasom Khullen road. According to reliable sources, the victims were attacked shortly after arriving at Hongbei village while they were still inside their vehicle. Of the six occupants in the vehicle, two managed to escape, while the remaining four were killed on the spot.
Sources identified the deceased as Major Sochipem Phungshok of Marao village, Sergeant Major Zairei Vasah of Halang village, Corporal Bahnlei Ahlahpya from Eastern Nagaland, and Sergeant Thansomi Vashi of Mapao village.
The exact motive behind the attack remains unclear at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Kasom Khullen Police conducted a spot enquiry on the morning of March 29, 2026, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
