The Union Budget has positioned the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, to play a central role in improving access to advanced assistive technologies nationwide.
Through the newly announced Divyang Sahara Yojana, the government plans to support ALIMCO in scaling up the production of high-quality assistive devices, enhancing research and development, and incorporating cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, into device design and services.
The budget also proposes strengthening Pradhan Mantri Divyang Vayoshri Kendras and establishing modern assistive technology marts, designed as retail-style centres to better serve persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
According to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities by providing both dignified livelihood opportunities and improved access to top-tier assistive solutions.
