The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) strongly condemned the killing of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh, calling it a brutal act and accusing the Central government of failing to control armed militant groups in the state.
Speaking at a press conference, COCOMI senior member Y.K. Dhiren said the incident occurred despite efforts by civil society and peace groups to restore normalcy. He criticized the 60,000+ central and paramilitary forces deployed in Manipur, claiming they have been ineffective in curbing militant activity and protecting civilians.
COCOMI urged the government to take immediate, decisive action to restore law and order and prevent further civilian casualties. Security agencies have yet to respond, and investigations into Singh’s killing are ongoing.
