Breaking: Indefinite Economic Blockade Imposed Along NH-2 in Protest Against Restriction of Movement of Kuki-Zo People by FNCC

Kangpokpi: The Working Committee of Kuki Civil Society Organisations (WCKCSOs), Sadar Hills Kanggui (Kangpokpi), has imposed economic blockade along National Highway 2 in Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi district, with effect from 7:00 am of 8 August 2025.

The move comes in response to the restriction of movement of Kuki-So people through Liangmai-Naga villages along the lifeline of Churachandpur-Kangpokpi since July 15, 2025, under the banner of Foothill Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC). The FNCC-sponsored bandh was neither supported by the United Naga Council (UNC) — the apex body of the Nagas in Manipur — and the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), the apex Naga body of Senapati district.

In a statement issued on 6 August 2025, the WCKCSOs squarely blamed two radical Meitei individuals — Th. Manihar of the Federation of Civil Society (FOCS) and Sapamcha Jadumani of the Federation of Haomee (FOHs) — for instigating and influencing the blockade by the FNCC. The committee accused them of playing a divisive role that has worsened inter-community relations and targeted the free movement of Kukis in the region.

The WCKCSOs maintained that the economic blockade will continue until the restrictions of Kuki movement are lifted and those responsible for instigating the unrest are held accountable. They further appealed to the district, state and central authorities to intervene immediately to prevent further escalation of tensions.
