GUWAHATI
Concerns over human trafficking have been raised after two individuals—a young girl and a married woman—went missing under mysterious circumstances in Chandrapur, on the outskirts of Guwahati. The missing persons have been identified as Monalisa Nath, a Higher Secondary first-year student, and Babita Barman, a mother of a three-year-old child.
Their families suspect that a broker lured them away with false promises and may have taken them to Mumbai. The possibility of human trafficking has not been ruled out. Upon receiving the report, Pragjyotishpur Police initiated an investigation into the case.
Notably, Monalisa was scheduled to appear for her examinations the following day, adding to the distress of her family.
In a related development, a 16-year-old girl who had been missing from the Nalapara area since February 28 was successfully rescued by Basistha Police. Authorities traced her whereabouts after an intensive search operation and reunited her with her family.
